What are drugs and where did they come from?

Drugs are chemical substances that are used for performance enhancements, pain relief, allergies, to help fight infections and fungus'. These drugs help our bodies to fight pathogens/ disease in our bodies and make us feel better. Drugs affect s the central nervous system, causing changes in behavior. Some people take drugs for non medical reasons. They take them to change the way they feel, think or behave so that they "can have fun."

Drugs were originally made from plants such as coca paste, opium and marijuana. Over time these plant material drugs have been further processed into stronger drugs such cocaine and heroin. Since the 20th century people now make drugs from chemicals which is a lot stronger than organic drugs. These man made drugs include speed, ecstasy, LSD. This break through of chemical drugs has increased the size of the drugs trade with new drugs being invented for human consumption.
